Boundaries with a loved one

Abhaya Mudra is a gesture used to symbolise protection, courage, fearlessness, "I have no weapons".

As I make the gesture my spine is long, my weight centred, knees slightly bent to feel grounded in my feet.

One hand makes a gesture of boundary, "this is my space" or "no".

I like to keep one hand on my heart to maintain a soothing link with my inner strength and my calm and present centre; but this is also helpful when setting boundaries with people I love, which can be much trickier. "I hold you here in my heart, you are important to me", and at the same time, "this is my space" or "no".

Setting limits and boundaries with loved ones can be difficult. We can be afraid of hurting their feelings or of being abandoned. All whilst really wanting something for ourselves. Being gentle with ourselves and feeling into our innate strength in this exploration as well as staying present is likely to be useful.

Notice if this feels useful to you when considering setting a boundary or working out how to state your wishes and limits.
